Frequently Asked Questions
DIFFUSER FAQ
How do Alora diffusers work?
The diffuser fragrance evaporates into the air via the porous reed sticks. Flipping the sticks controls the amount of fragrance in your space. Flip all the sticks in a bigger space or for stronger scent, or flip just one or two in a smaller space.
How do I assemble my Alora diffuser?
Start by unscrewing the closed wood cap from the bottle. Replace it with the wood cap with a hole in the middle. Insert the reed sticks through the open cap and into the bottle. Immediately flip the sticks, so both sides of the sticks are saturated. Flip sticks as needed for desired intensity. Use care when handling the diffusers near an open flame or finished surfaces. The fragrance is flammable and can remove furniture finish.
What are Alora fragrances made of?
Alora Ambiance fragrances are made with a blend of high-quality fragrance and natural essential oils. We use this combination of ingredients to achieve a fragrance that is more intense and complex, and with greater staying power, than could be formulated using essential oils alone. Our fragrances are vegan, not tested on animals and paraben, phthalate and DEP free.
Can a diffuser be closed and then reopened at a later date?
Yes, closing the bottle for later use is fine. Just make sure to keep both caps and the box for easy storage.
Can Alora fragrances be used as perfume?
Yes, our fragrances are very similar to perfume and can safely be safely used on the body. We suggest you test a small amount of fragrance on your skin first before regularly using as a perfume.
Why are some fragrances stronger than others?
Our formula is the same for all of our fragrances. However, depending on the note combinations within each fragrance, the level of intensity will vary from one fragrance to another.
Are refills available?
We do not offer refills for three reasons. First, after using one bottle of fragrance the sticks are completely saturated and will not wick additional bottles (in other words, they won’t be able to absorb any more liquid and therefore won’t diffuse any fragrance). Second, pouring a new bottle of fragrance into an old bottle may alter the fragrance. Finally, we always package and ship our liquid diffuser fragrances in glass bottles, so you would receive a new glass bottle either way.
What is the shelf life of Alora diffusers?
We encourage you to use unopened diffusers within 3 years.
How long will Alora diffusers last?
Our 8oz diffuser lasts 1-3 months, and our 16oz diffuser lasts 3-5 months.
Why does the fragrance color vary from bottle to bottle?
The essential oils in our fragrances naturally darken with time. This will occur in opened and unopened bottles. Both heat and sunlight will increase darkening, and if excessive, may alter the fragrance.
Why does the rate of evaporation vary from bottle to bottle?
Different air conditions will affect the rate at which our reed diffuser fragrances evaporate. Dry climates, heated spaces, air conditioning and air purifiers may all increase the rate of evaporation, whereas more humid conditions may cause the fragrance to last longer. How often the sticks are flipped will also affect the rate of evaporation; flipping the sticks more often will cause the fragrance to evaporate faster and vice versa.
Why doesn’t my diffuser smell as strong as it used to? Have you changed the formula?
Our formulas have not changed. What has happened is a common occurrence: your nose has grown accustomed to the fragrance therefore you don’t notice it as much. To avoid this, we recommend alternating fragrances.
CANDLE FAQ
What should I do the first time I burn my candle?
When burning candles for the first time, trim wick to 1/4" and burn until a pool of wax covers the candle's entire surface. This will help the candle burn evenly and prevent wasted wax from building up along the sides of the container, a process known as tunneling.
Where should I burn my candle?
Always burn candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep the candle out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. CAUTION: Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from pets and children.
Why should I trim the wick on my candle?
Letting the wick get too long causes the wick itself to burn, which causes the candle to smoke. Keeping the wick trimmed and burning the candle away from drafts will help control the flame and prevent smoking that may blacken the container.
How often should I trim the wick?
Trim the wick to 1/4" before burning the candle for the first time. Trim the wick prior to all future burns and anytime the wick begins to mushroom. Always let the candle wick cool completely before trimming.
Why is my candle smoking?
Anytime the flame is disturbed on a candle, soot is released from the flame causing the candle to smoke. To ensure even burning and to prevent smoking: keep the candle away from drafts, re-center the wick after extinguishing the candle and always keep the wick trimmed to 1/4".
How long do Alora candles last?
The approximate burn time of our candles is 50 hours. Burn candles for 3-4 hours at a time. Burning candles for longer periods of time can cause the candle wick to mushroom, which is a sign that the wick needs to be trimmed.
